The 88th Legislature adjourned sine die on May 29, 2023. ICT tracked over 60 bills that specifically dealt with workers’ compensation issues.
Workers’ Compensation legislation of interest passed:
HB 679: Prohibiting, in a public construction contract, the use of workers’ compensation insurance experience modifier requirements as a condition to accept an offer, as part of contract solicitation.
HB 2314: Allowing death benefits to be filed with DWC or an insurance carrier.
HB 2468: Expanding eligibility for lifetime income benefits (LIBs) under the workers’ compensation system; broadening LIBs eligibility for first responders and volunteer first responders to include serious bodily injury sustained by the employee in the course and scope of the employee’s employment.
SB 1122: Exempting medical services performed to determine workers’ compensation benefits from sales and use taxes.
